Protesters Waving Russian Flags Committing Treason – Defence Chief

379

The Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Musa, has condemned protesters waving the Russian flag, describing the act as a “treasonable offence.” Day five of the #EndBadGovernance protests continued today, and Northern Nigeria witnessed a massive turnout of demonstrators despite the curfew imposed in most states.

The waving of the Russian flags has led to controversy and strong reactions from various quarters. After a meeting with service chiefs and heads of security agencies convened by President Bola Tinubu in Abuja on Monday, General Musa expressed the government’s stance.

“All of us have seen where foreign flags have been flown within the sovereignty of Nigeria, and that is unacceptable. We are warning in clear terms, and the President has also said we should convey this: that we will not accept anybody, any individual, flying any foreign flag in Nigeria,” he stated.

“That is a treasonable offence and will be viewed and treated as such. So, nobody should allow himself to be used by any individual.”

According to the CDS, many of those seen waving foreign flags are children being manipulated by external sponsors.

“For those flying flags – and if you’ll see a lot of them are kids being pushed to do that. We’re following up with those sponsoring them,” General Musa said.

In response to the situation, security agencies have arrested several suspects involved in the mass production of the flags.

The Department of State Service (DSS) has also detained individuals believed to be the sponsors of this activity in Kano.

“We have identified those areas, and we are going to take serious action against them.”

“Nigeria is a sovereign nation. Nigeria is a democratic nation, and all security agencies are here to defend democracy and ensure that democracy continues to thrive. We will not accept anyone pushing or taking any action, seemingly or for whatever reason, to want to push for any change of government.”
