The protests in Kaduna have escalated as some protesters were allegedly shot dead, and some were injured by the police.

In a post on X by @KHALYD16, he said, “Just now the @PoliceNG have gunned down five protesters 2 killed three critically injured in Kaduna. Let it be on record that the police, Kaduna State government, and KADVS started the violence.”

Another X user, @_Gracious11, posted, “This is happening live in Kaduna; the police just shot a harmless protester.” In the 49-second video accompanying the post, a young protester was seen to have been shot as police were chasing protesters. It was not revealed whether the victim died from the shot or not.

On the other hand, the police told Arise News that the protesters were trying to burn down the Government House in Kaduna. Speaking to the Arise News correspondent in front of the Government House, a police spokesperson said that the protest was being hijacked by hoodlums. He also mentioned that a police officer was injured during the protest.

“As you can see, this is how violent it is,” he said. “Look at the so-called protest in front of Government House. They are trying to burn down the Government House, which we can not take it. No government will take it.

“As a law enforcement agency, we cannot take it, and definitely, as these people turn to rioters, we will make sure we do whatever the law says.”
