Parents Protest Lagos Boarding Fee Hike, Demand Reversal

765

Parents of students from various model colleges in Lagos are protesting the recent increase in boarding fees by the state government. The hike saw the fees rise from N35,000 to N100,000, sparking outrage among parents who argue that the increase is unaffordable during the current economic hardship.

At Eva Adelaja Girls Grammar School in Bariga, parents reportedly gathered to demand the immediate reversal of the fee hike, stating that their children would not resume school until the government addressed their concerns.

We can’t afford this. Why keep our children at home? We want free education, one protester said.

Similarly, at Oriwu Model College in Ikorodu, parents carried placards and peacefully protested the sudden fee increment. Kazeem Oladuni, Chairman of the Parent Forum Association (PFA) at the school, said the hike is too expensive for most parents, especially during tough economic times. He urged the government to reduce the fees and allow students to resume their studies.

In a similar development, human rights lawyer Femi Falana, a senior advocate of Nigeria, condemned the recent increase and demanded a reversal. The parents vow to keep their children home until the boarding fee hike is reversed.
