The 97th Academy Awards celebrated various cinematic achievements on March 2, 2025, with several standout moments and notable winners.

“Anora,” directed by Sean Baker, emerged as the night’s biggest victor, securing five awards, including Best Picture, Best Director for Baker, and Best Actress for Mikey Madison.

Adrien Brody received the Best Actor award for his role in “The Brutalist,” delivering an emotional acceptance speech that addressed themes of antisemitism and racism.

Zoe Saldaña made history by winning Best Supporting Actress for “Emilia Pérez,” becoming the first actress of Dominican heritage to secure an Oscar.

The event commenced with a musical tribute to Los Angeles, featuring “Wicked” stars Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo performing a medley of songs from the Wizard of Oz universe. Their rendition of “Somewhere Over the Rainbow” and “Defying Gravity” set an enchanting tone for the evening.

A nostalgic moment unfolded when Adrien Brody and Halle Berry recreated their iconic kiss from the 2003 Oscars on the red carpet, delighting attendees and viewers alike.

Additionally, the Academy honoured Los Angeles firefighters for their bravery during the recent Southern California wildfires, inviting them on stage to a standing ovation. See the complete list of winners here.
