The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced Thursday, October 17 as the commencement date for the collection of Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) for registered voters in Ondo State, ahead of the governorship election scheduled for November 16, 2024.

Sam Olumekun, INEC National Commissioner and Chairman, Information and Voter Education Committee, made this known in a statement on Monday.

The PVC collection will take place in two phases across 221 centres in the state.

According to Olumekun, a total of 89,777 new PVCs have been printed and delivered to INEC’s state office in Akure.

This includes 58,708 cards for new voters and 31,069 cards for individuals who applied for transfers, updates, or replacements of lost and damaged PVCs.

The collection process will be available first at all 203 wards in the state from October 17 to October 21, 2024, between 9:00 am and 5:00 pm daily, including weekends.

It will then shift to the 18 Local Government Area offices from October 23 to October 29, 2024.

During this period, voters who registered in previous exercises and have yet to collect their PVCs will also be able to retrieve them at designated centres. INEC reiterated that collection by proxy is not allowed, and all registered voters must pick up their PVCs in person.

INEC also said it will upload the register of new voters to its website to facilitate easier identification and collection of the PVCs.

It will be recalled that INEC had earlier announced the commencement of the distribution of non-sensitive election materials ahead of the Ondo governorship election.
