Ogun Government Mandates Job Applicants to Pay N10,000 Application Fee

524

The Ogun State Government has introduced a N10,000 non-refundable fee for applicants seeking employment in the state’s civil service.

The policy, outlined in a memo signed by Permanent Secretary Jacob R.O. on behalf of the Civil Service Commission, has sparked widespread condemnation, particularly among youth of the state.

The memo detailed that candidates must obtain tellers from Room A261 at the Civil Service Commission upon payment of the N10,000 fee. Completed application forms and credentials are to be submitted to the office of the Director of Appointment and Transfer, located in Block A, Room A233 at the state secretariat complex in Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.

“Applicants are to obtain tellers from Room A261 at the Civil Service Commission for application forms on payment of a non-refundable fee of ten thousand Naira (N10,000) per candidate. The application forms and other credentials should be submitted to the office of the Director, Appointment and Transfer (Civil Service Commission) Block A, Room A233, state secretariat complex Oke-Mosan, in Abeokuta,” the memo read.

The policy has been met with harsh reactions from indigenes, particularly the youth, who see it as a barrier to employment opportunities.

According to reports, this is not the first instance of the Ogun State Government imposing such fees.

In 2021, it was reported that prospective fire service officers were also required to pay N10,000 for application forms.

At the time, Governor Dapo Abiodun had sanctioned the recruitment of qualified candidates for the positions of Fire Officer II, GL.08, Higher Fire Superintendent GL.08, and Medical Officer II, GL.12 into the state civil service.

A press release signed by Mr Kolawole Ogunlana, the then Permanent Secretary of the Civil Service Commission, indicated that a written examination for the applicants was conducted through the Public Service Competitive Entrance Examination at the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta.
