The Nigerian Air Force has confirmed that one of its CH-4 combat drones crashed during a routine operation in Kontagora Forest, Niger State, in northern Nigeria.

According to a military statement, the unmanned aerial vehicle experienced a technical malfunction while on a surveillance mission, leading to its crash. No casualties were recorded, and there was no damage to civilian property.

The drone involved, identified as NAF-114, is part of Nigeria’s expanding unmanned fleet used for intelligence gathering and strike operations against armed groups. Following the incident, military personnel secured the crash site and recovered the drone’s wreckage.

The Air Force has launched a technical investigation to determine the exact cause of the failure. Officials stressed that the incident does not affect ongoing military operations and reaffirmed the Air Force’s commitment to maintaining operational readiness.

The CH-4 drone, often compared to the US-made MQ-9 Reaper, has played a key role in Nigeria’s counter-insurgency efforts, particularly in difficult terrain where manned aircraft face limitations.
