The Nigerien Armed Forces have successfully destroyed a major terrorist base near its border with Nigeria in a decisive military operation carried out on July 11 in the Dosso region. The operation termed ‘Operation Damissa’ raided a known militant stronghold that served as a critical staging ground for terrorist attacks in southern Nigér. According to military officials, 15 militants were neutralised during the operation.

The army also reported the destruction of a significant logistics center, along with the seizure of weapons, fuel supplies, and several motorcycles used for rapid mobility by the militants.

The offensive is part of a broader counterterrorism campaign aimed at restoring security and stability along Niger’s southern border. The region has experienced increasing militant activity in recent years, often spilling over from conflict zones in northern Nigeria.

The raid was said to be supported by air assets and resulted in the neutralisation terrorists and the demolition of a major logistics base serving as a support point for armed groups.

This targeted strike marks a rise in the intensity of the Nigerien army’s offensive operations in the border areas with Nigeria and Benin, areas known to be infiltrated by jihadist groups affiliated with Boko Haram and the Islamic State in the Greater Sahara (ISGS), according to reports.
