The Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) announced Tuesday that the national grid has collapsed. They said that the grid went down at approximately 2:55 pm on Monday.

This would make it the fifth time this year that the national grid has failed, leaving numerous areas without electricity.

While the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has yet to issue a statement, the AEDC made the situation known via a post on X, saying:

We are aware that some of our customers are experiencing power outages due to a national grid failure at 2:55 pm today, August 5, 2024, AEDC posted on X.

They, however, assured customers that efforts are being made to restore power in collaboration with other stakeholders.

Rest assured, the system is gradually stabilising, and we are working diligently with all relevant parties to restore power to the affected areas as quickly as possible, they stated.

Recall that the grid collapsed on February 4, March 28, April 15, and July 6. This marks the fifth incident.
