Minister for Works: I will sack those who are not ready to work

David Umahi, the Minister for Works, has expressed his displeasure with the work done on the Eleme-Onne section of the East-West Road in Rivers State. He threatened to sack any contractor who failed to meet expectations.

The Federal Government has committed N33bn to the road construction, which the RCC construction company manages. Umahi’s project inspection revealed poor-quality sand and unqualified personnel on the site.

“The contractor is not ready to work,” he stated. “And no matter who they are, no matter who is behind them, I will remove them if they are not ready to be serious with this work”.

Umahi also criticized the pace of work at the Port Harcourt-Aba section of the Port Harcourt-Enugu road project, managed by the China Civil Engineering Construction Company (CCECC).

The minister emphasized the importance of workers taking their jobs seriously and threatened to sack those who neglect their duties.

He also highlighted the need for better supervision of construction sites to prevent delays and shoddy work.
