Member of EU Parliament, Clare Daly Calls for Suspension of Israel from Int'l Competitions

An outspoken member of the European Parliament (EU), Clare Daly on Tuesday urged major global sport organizations, including IOC, FIFA, UEFA, FIBA, and other sports organizations to suspend Israel from international competitions until it complies with international law.

In a recall, West Africa Weekly reports on the International Court of Justice (ICJ) ruling in a case of South Africa against Israel’s genocidal war in the Gaza Strip, Palestine, which consent of the World Court attributed to a plausible intent of genocide and rule that Israel should “immediately suspend its military operation in or against Gaza”.

Also, the ICJ ruled that Israel should negotiate the release of hostages and take immediate and effective measures to enable the provision of urgently needed basic services and humanitarian assistance to address the adverse conditions of life faced by Palestinians in the Gaza Strip.

Following the ICJ ruling on January 26th, 2024, which stopped short its ruling on the cease-fire order, Israel’s Western allies cut funding to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) for Palestine Refugees in the Near East.

In a continuous war against Hamas and Palestinians following the October 7 attack, Daly’s petition urges the IOC, FIFA, UEFA, FIBA, & other organizations to enforce the ICJ ruling on the South Africa vs. Israel case.

Clare Daly wrote in a post, “I’ve signed a petition calling on the IOC, FIFA, UEFA, FIBA, and other sports organizations to suspend Israel from international competitions until it complies with international law,” while urging concerned citizens across the globe to sign the petition against Israel.
