Mali’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Abdoulaye Diop, met on 4 December 2025 with a delegation from the Institute for Security Studies (ISS), the organisation’s regional office covering West Africa, the Sahel, and the Lake Chad Basin.

According to the Foreign Ministry, the discussion focused on Mali’s evolving security and political landscape, including the government’s ongoing fight against hybrid terrorist groups operating across the Sahel.

The meeting also reviewed ongoing peace initiatives, particularly the National Charter for Peace and Reconciliation, which the military-led government has presented as a framework for stabilisation and national healing.

Regional cooperation was another key topic, with both sides assessing Mali’s current posture within the Confédération Alliance des États du Sahel (AES) — the bloc formed by Mali, Burkina Faso and Niger, as the trio continues to emphasise sovereignty and homegrown security solutions.

Both the Malian authorities and the ISS delegation expressed their commitment to maintaining dialogue and strengthening collaboration in support of policies aimed at advancing peace, security and development in the country.
