Mali and Mauritania Pledge Stronger Bilateral Cooperation in Bamako Meeting

Mali and Mauritania have moved to strengthen their bilateral cooperation following a high level meeting in Bamako on Monday. The President of Mali’s Transition, General Assimi Goïta, received the Mauritanian Minister of Defence, Mr. Hanana Ould Sidi, who delivered an official message from Mauritanian President Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani.

The meeting took place in the presence of Mali’s Defence Minister, General Oumar Diarra, and continued the long standing historical ties between the two neighbouring nations. Following the audience, the Mauritanian minister conveyed the greetings of President Ghazouani to General Goïta. Mr. Hanana Ould Sidi emphasised the depth of the friendship and solidarity linking the two countries, noting that they are united by a shared history, common culture, and mutual challenges.

In response, General Assimi Goïta asked his guest to return his own greetings to President Ghazouani. The Malian leader reaffirmed the joint commitment to deepening bilateral cooperation in the service of peace, security, and development across the region.

The visit highlights the growing strategic partnership between Bamako and Nouakchott as both nations confront the pressing issues of the sub region. Finally, Mr. Hanana Ould Sidi thanked the Malian authorities for their warm reception and hospitality.
