The son of basketball legend, LeBron James, has declared his intention to enter the 2024 NBA Draft. The 19-year-old, Bronny James, announced this on Friday.
This comes after his recovery from a life-threatening cardiac arrest in July 2023 during a practice session with his University of Southern California (USC) team. Despite the ordeal, which included a three-day intensive care stay, he was cleared to return to basketball four months later.
In a statement on Instagram, Bronny reflected on his challenging year, expressing gratitude towards his university, family, healthcare team, and supporters.

“I’ve had a year with some ups and downs but all added to growth for me as a man, student and athlete,” the 19-year-old noted in an Instagram post.
“I’ve made the decision to enter the NBA Draft while maintaining my college eligibility, and will also be entering the NCAA transfer portal.
“Thank you to USC for an amazing Freshman year, and as always thankful for my family, friends, doctors, athletic trainers and fans for their support,” Bronny James said.
His father, LeBron James, is currently a player for the Los Angeles Lakers and a legend in the sport with four NBA championships. He also has the achievement of being the first player to score 40,000 NBA career points.
The veteran has in the past declared of his wish to play in the NBA with his son, Bronny, before retiring. However, there are concerns that his son is not yet ready for the NBA.
The 2024 NBA Draft is scheduled for June 26-27, 2024.
