Journalist Catherine Wanjeri Shot By Kenyan Police Dies Amid Anti-Govt Protests In Nakuru

A yet-to-be-identified Kenyan police officer has reportedly shot a journalist who works for K24TV during a live coverage of the ongoing anti-government protests in Nakuru.

The journalist, Catherine Kariuki Wanjeri, was shot in the leg in the company of a Tuko News journalist, Nancy Odindo, who sustained critical injuries.

According to Kenyans.co.kethe two journalists were seen in a video shouting for help as they were on the ground. Wanjeri, in particular, was spotted holding her leg with blood stains on her left thigh.

Following the incident, an emergency team quickly rushed to the scene to perform first aid before transporting the journalist to the hospital.

Wanjeri reportedly passed out on a motorbike used in transporting her by fellow journalists who rushed her to the Valley Hospital located in Nakuru town.

A  police officer fired the shot during the heightened protests around Nakuru Central Business District, as protesters were determined to march through the police across to the governor’s office.

The protesters could be seen chanting #RutoMustGo, which emerged after the June 18th anti-Finance Bill protests.

This was the case nationwide as most protesters’ demands focused on accountability and ending poor governance by the William Ruto-led regime despite firing his entire cabinet.
