JUST IN: Max Air Boeing 737 Tyres Burst During Takeoff In Yola With 119 Onboard

A Max Air commercial flight with 119 passengers and 6 crew members onboard has suffered a total failure of its rear landing gear while taking off on a scheduled service at Yola Airport.

The Boeing 737-300 with tail identifier 5N-ADB, which was scheduled to take off from Yola Airport enroute Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, had all its rear tyres burst on the runway during the botched takeoff attempt.

According to a source, all 125 people onboard have been safely evacuated, leaving the disabled aircraft lying on the runway.

Data from Planespotters shows that the 25-year-old Boeing 737-300 was placed into long-term storage in Lagos on 25 December 2022, and returned to service on 7 May 2024.

A source at the accident site exclusively informed West Africa Weekly that the aircraft lost all its rear landing tyres, leaving the runway temporarily unusable.

It will be recalled that West Africa Weekly exclusively reported last year that following a series of high-profile Max Air safety incidents which led to a grounding of its Boeing 737 fleet by the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), the airline was permitted to resume 737 flight operations despite an audit report showing no fewer than 48 major safety and maintenance infractions.

The story is still developing…
