First Lady of Nigeria, Remi Tinubu, has said that Nigerians who relocate abroad take on jobs they couldn’t do in Nigeria. She stated this during an interview with Arise News on Thursday, March 21.

She said that rather than spending big on leisure activities like hosting parties, Nigerians could support each other and assist those in need. She stated that she believed in social development and that help should be rendered to those who genuinely need it, as the government can’t feed everyone.

“Nigerians, we can help each other, the rate we’re throwing parties, why don’t you use that money to help your neighbour until they can really get on their feet? It’s not that the government has to begin to give food to everybody.

“I believe in social development and social investment for people who truly need it. It is for people whom God has blessed to help the poor,” she said.

She added that:

“Even those people saying they are going to Japa, they go there. What work are they going to do? Work that you refused to do at home where you have loved ones, you end up going to do that.”

“Even with all their education, they are driving cabs but won’t drive cabs here.”

The  First Lady also addressed the perception of poverty in Nigeria, pointing out that people often labelled individuals without possessions like cars and houses as poor, regardless of their circumstances.
