Governor Dapo Abiodun Introduces N2,500 Charging Fee for Newly Launched Electric Bikes

Gov. Dapo Abiodun has introduced N2,500 charges for riders of newly launched electric bikes in Ogun State. The move came following the state’s E-Mobility pilot scheme, which inaugurated 2,000 electric motorbikes and tricycles last week.

Speaking through his media aide, Kayode Akinmade, in an interview with PUNCH, he noted that apart from the affordability of the electric bikes, they are also very environmentally friendly.

“The users of these e-bikes will also be paying N2,500 for charging their batteries, which could last a day. This is relatively cheap when compared to what they would be spending if they were to buy fuel.

“For now, the charging points for the e-bikes are only available in Abeokuta. There is one very close to the MKO Abiola International Stadium; there is one at Panseke and Oke-Sokori,” he said.

He explained that the pilot programme will reduce the burdens of high transportation costs in the country and, at the same time, contribute to cleaning up the environment by reducing carbon emissions.

He said this is an assurance of his administration’s commitment to easing the pains experienced by citizens since the removal of subsidies and the high costs of petroleum products in the country.

The E-Mobility programme will first be implemented in Abeokuta, with plans for expansion to other parts of the state very soon.
