The Government of Ghana has approved a 10 per cent increase in the National Daily Minimum Wage (NDMW), raising it to GH¢19.97, effective March 1, 2025.

The wage adjustment follows negotiations by the National Tripartite Committee (NTC) on February 20, 2025, in line with Section 113 (1) (a) of the Labour Act 2003 (Act 651).

The NTC, which includes representatives from the government, employers, and Organised Labour, considered economic challenges, the cost of living, business sustainability, and employment growth in determining the new wage. Employers have been directed to implement the increase from March 1, with penalties for non-compliance.

The government has approved a 10 per cent salary increase for public sector workers under the Single Spine Salary Structure (SSSS) for the 2025 fiscal year.

This decision follows negotiations between Organised Labour/Associations and President John Dramani Mahama, who personally engaged with the groups to secure their support.

The increment, agreed upon by the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission (FWSC), the Ministry of Labour, Jobs and Employment (MLJE), the Ministry of Finance (MoF), and Organised Labour, will take effect from January 1, 2025, and run until December 2025.

The NTC has also recommended that the 2025 NDMW be tax-exempt, ensuring workers receive the full benefit of the increase.

This adjustment follows the 2024 public sector salary increase, in which the government approved a 23 per cent raise for the first half of the year (January to June) and a 25 per cent increase for the second half (July to December) to address economic conditions.

The NDMW was also raised from GH¢14.88 to GH¢18.15 on January 1, 2024, under the Nana Akufo-Addo administration.
