Funke Akindele’s latest film, “Everybody Loves Jenifa,” will hit theatres in Nigeria on December 13, 2024, and has secured an international release across 30 countries through Nile Entertainment.

The movie, which revisits Akindele’s iconic character, Jenifa, will be shown on six continents, including Africa, Europe, and Asia. Countries such as India, Sweden, Germany, and Finland are among the new territories where the film will debut, marking its first-ever release in these regions.

Announcing the milestone on social media, Akindele expressed her excitement, saying,

My Jenifans WORLDWIDE… we heard you! @theNileentertainment delivered. We proudly announce the international theatrical distribution of Everybody Loves Jenifa to 6 continents, 30 countries.

The film blends humour and nostalgia and is part of the Jenifa franchise that began with the 2008 hit film of the same name. Over the years, Jenifa has become a beloved character, inspiring sequels and the successful TV series Jenifa’s Diary.

This global release is also seen as a strategic move to surpass the ₦1 billion box office milestone achieved by Akindele’s previous film, A Tribe Called Judah, which remains a landmark success in Nigerian cinema.

Akindele, a renowned actress, producer, and director, continues to solidify her international appeal with this release. In addition to her cinematic achievements, she has also been appointed as the National Goodwill Ambassador for UNAIDS in Nigeria, where she will champion causes like HIV prevention and fighting stigma.

Over the years, Akindele has lent her voice towards social issues. It is imperative to note that Akindele’s career started with an HIV/AIDS and STI awareness show called “I Need to Know” that ran from 1997 to 2002.

“Everybody Loves Jenifa” is poised to entertain audiences worldwide while expanding the reach of Nigerian cinema to new markets. Fans eagerly anticipate another comedic and heartwarming adventure from Akindele’s beloved character.
