FCT Police Command Deploys 4200 Officers Ahead Of #EndBadGovernance Protest

The FCT Police Command has deployed 4,200 police officers to ensure peace and order during the planned nationwide protest scheduled for August 1. Public Relations Officer SP Josephine Adeh made this known in a statement released on Friday.

The protests, organised by human rights activists and Nigerian youths, aim to voice discontent over widespread hunger and hardship.

The police noted that in anticipation of potential unrest, the police command had allocated both material and human resources across the nation’s capital.

This extensive deployment strategy includes visibility policing, explosive ordinance devices (EOD) experts, and personnel stationed at strategic locations.

The police said it will conduct raids on identified black spots, uncompleted buildings, and shanties. Measures will include stop and search operations, vehicular and foot patrols, and coordinated efforts with sister security agencies.

The Commissioner of Police FCT, CP Benneth Igweh, emphasised the importance of peaceful protest, acknowledging the residents’ right to demonstrate.

“The CP vows to resist all forms of violent protest and lawlessness, as the police will not be stampeded into allowing the destruction of public and private properties or loss of lives,” Igweh stated.

Protesters, while asserting their right to protest, have also called on the police to ensure their protection during the demonstrations. They urge the police to focus on safeguarding peaceful protesters.
