The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has taken action against an Instagram user, Kayode Cole, for predicting the death of the EFCC Chairman Ola Olukoyede. Cole was apprehended by EFCC personnel on Monday in the Lugbe area of Abuja following his threatening remarks made on Instagram.
Cole’s arrest came after he commented on a post by Instablog9ja on February 1, 2024, alleging money laundering by a religious sect. The story was captioned: “A Religious Sect Is Laundering Money for Terrorists. We Traced N7 Billion Fraud Proceeds to another Religious Group – EFCC Chairman.”
In his comment under the Instablog9ja post, Cole predicted Olukoyede’s demise within six months.
“He will be dead in six months. This man will be dead in six months remember I said it,” he said.
Upon interrogation, Cole claimed he was merely seeking attention. The EFCC, on the other hand, has decided to hand Cole over to the appropriate authorities for further investigation and possible prosecution. This was made clear in a statement the agency shared on its official X account on Wednesday.
“Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on Monday, March 18, 2024, arrested one Kayode Cole for issuing a death threat against the Executive Chairman of the Commission, Ola Olukoyede.
“Cole was arrested at the Lugbe axis of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Abuja. The suspect made the death threat through his Instagram page handle: ‘1billionsecretss’ while commenting on a story posted by a popular Instagram blogger, Instablog9ja, on February 1, 2024″, the statement partly said.
The agency pledged to take further action against the said Instagram user.
