Despite Citizens Outcry on Hunger, Wike Sets to Build ₦15B Residential House for Shettima

Nigeria’s Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike on Wednesday visited the construction site of the ₦15 billion Vice-President’s residence in Abuja despite Kashim Shettima having access to residential lodges in Lagos State.

In 2023, Wike proposed ₦15 billion naira to build a residential house for Shettima despite the provision of the residential lodge in Lagos. During his inspection visit to part of the construction sites at Abuja, he revealed that the road is expected to be completed in May.

However, as the Minister of the FCT, he also inspected other road projects under construction in Abuja municipality, while assuring the public of adequate use of taxpayer funds in building infrastructures within the Capital, Abuja.

During his speech to the press, he expressed and reassured Nigerians of the renewed hope agenda of the Bola Ahmed Tinubu administration, stating the taxpayers will see the use of public money.

By May, a lot of Nigerians would see the changes as far as FCT is concerned, he added.

Meanwhile, Netizens have taken to social to criticise the use of taxpayers’ money for building excess residential houses for public servants, especially as there are residential houses in place to house the President and his Vice, Shettima.
