Despite Alleged 20-Count Charge, We Don't Know What To Charge Emefiele – Akpabio
Left: Senate President, Godswill Apkabio Right: Ex-CBN Gov. Godwin Emefiele

The Senate President, Mr Godswill Akpabio, has expressed confusion about what to charge the Former Central Bank Governor, Mr Godwin Emefiele, despite the Federal Government 20-count charge.

Akpabio made this known during a thanksgiving service by Senator Barinada Mpigi in Koroma, Tai Local Government Area of Rivers State on Sunday. He said the present administration met the economy in an unimaginable state.

“The kind of debt and economic mess that we are in, a lot of people do not understand. By the time we went in to look at the country’s economic situation, it was terrible. You know, the former Governor of the Central Bank, we don’t even know what to charge him with,” he said.

The Senate President appealed to Nigerians to be patient with the current economic situation, stating that “the rot of over 60 years cannot be solved in six months. He added that the country is thrown into hunger because of the policies and actions of the past administration.

He said the current administration led by President Bola Tinubu is battling to ensure that citizens sleep with their eyes closed and have three square meals daily. He assured that they would not let Nigerians down after campaigning and dancing around the country.

Akpabio’s confusion follows the boasting of the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, who expressed that nothing can stop APC from the continuity of power in 2027.

Meanwhile, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) had earlier amended a 20-count charge against Emefiele, bordering on financial crimes, including alleged criminal breach of trust, forgery, conspiracy to commit forgery, procurement fraud, and conspiracy to commit a felony.
