In a coordinated military operation, forces from Mali and Niger, operating under the Confederation of Sahel States (CSS), successfully destroyed a terrorist base located approximately 35 kilometres south of Indelimane in Mali’s Ménaka Region. The operation, facilitated by joint aerial surveillance, targeted an installation used by Armed Terrorist Groups (GAT).

The Directorate of Information and Public Relations of the Armed Forces (DIRPA) announced the successful strike on Friday, May 9, highlighting it as part of a series of ongoing operations aimed at dismantling terrorist networks across the CSS territories, particularly in the tri-border area shared by Mali, Niger, and Burkina Faso.

The General Staff of the Armed Forces (EMGA) commended the quality of intelligence work and the professionalism of the personnel involved. It emphasised the importance of continued cooperation among AES member states to protect civilian populations in the region.

This operation aligns with the broader objectives of the AES, which was formed following the withdrawal of Mali, Niger, and Burkina Faso from the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) in January 2025.

The CSS has since focused on regional security and self-reliance, establishing a 5,000-strong joint military force equipped with air, land, and intelligence capabilities.
