824

Former Taraba State Governor, Darius Dickson Ishaku, has been granted bail of N150 million by a Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court in an alleged N27 billion embezzlement case. The court, presided over by Justice Sylvanus Oriji, also granted bail to Bello Yero, the former Permanent Secretary of the Bureau for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) had arraigned Ishaku and Yero on September 30, 2024, on a 15-count charge, including conspiracy and criminal breach of trust. The charges involve the alleged diversion of over N1.1 billion from the contingency fund of the Bureau between 2015 and 2019. The arraignment came after Ishaku and Yero were arrested on Friday, September 27, 2024.

Both defendants pleaded not guilty to the charges. The EFCC’s lead prosecutor, Rotimi Jacobs, SAN, did not oppose the bail application, which was granted with conditions, including a surety and a travel restriction. The case has been adjourned to November for trial.
