A cholera outbreak in Yola-North Local Government Area of Adamawa State has claimed four lives. Another 36 people have been hospitalised. The outbreak started in Alkalawa, Ajiya, and Limawa wards. This was confirmed on Sunday by the council’s Executive Chairman, Jibrin Ibrahim, during a visit to the Infectious Disease Control Centre (IDC) in Yola.

Ibrahim reported that the initial 20 cases quickly rose to over 40, resulting in four fatalities. He praised the efforts of health workers, the Red Cross, and international partners for their quick response, which has helped stabilise many of the affected patients.

The outbreak is suspected to have been triggered by contaminated water, worsened by recent flooding in the area. Ibrahim urged residents to maintain hygiene, drink safe water, and wash fruits and vegetables thoroughly to prevent further spread.
