Burna Boy, Davido Lose Grammy Award to Tyla

362

At the 66th Grammy Awards on February 4, 2024, South African music sensation Tyla achieved a historic victory, securing the debut Best African Music Performance award.

Tyla’s triumph with her hit single ‘Water’ overshadowed Nigerian superstars Davido, Burna Boy, Asake, and Ayra Starr in the same category.

Despite multiple nominations, Burna Boy’s pursuit of a second Grammy award faced disappointment across categories like Best Global Music Performance, Best Global Album Performance, Best Melodic Rap Performance, and Best African Music Performance category, which he lost to Tyla.

Similarly, Davido, vying for his first Grammy, faced defeat in the Best African Music Performance, Best Global Album Performance, and Best African Music Performance categories, which he also lost to Tyla.

Tyla’s win solidified her place in Grammy history and marked her as the debut recipient of the prestigious Best African Music Performance award at The Grammys.
