Breaking: Maurizio Sarri resigns as Lazio’s head coach

Maurizio Sarri has parted ways with Lazio with just 10 games remaining in the Serie A season.

The 65-year-old, who took over the club in June 2021 after a year-long hiatus, left after a tumultuous tenure marred by recent disappointments.

The final blow came after Lazio’s 2-1 defeat to Udinese on Monday night, marking their fourth consecutive loss across all competitions.

This defeat, coupled with their elimination from the Champions League by Bayern Munich last week, proved to be the tipping point for Sarri’s departure.

The club confirmed Sarri’s departure in a statement, stating, “Sarri has resigned as head coach of the first team.

The club thanked him for the goals achieved and for the work carried out. We wish him the best.”

Under Sarri’s guidance, Lazio struggled to find consistency in Serie A and is currently occupying ninth place in the league table.

Despite flashes of promise, including notable victories, the team’s inability to maintain momentum ultimately led to Sarri’s departure.
