A gas explosion reportedly occurred at a Mobil Oil Nigeria Plc filling station on Obafemi Awolowo Road, Ikeja, Lagos.

The flames consumed several cars and buses parked nearby before emergency responders arrived.

Officials from the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) and the Lagos State Fire Service swiftly responded to the incident to bring the fire under control and prevent it from spreading to nearby buildings.

Eyewitnesses described the scene as chaotic and terrifying.

One of them, a lawyer who operates from an office just behind the filling station, took to social media to express his relief at the quick response from the fire service.

“Crazy fire incident this morning at Mobil filling station, Awolowo Way Ikeja, just behind my office. Thank God for the swift action of the Lagos State Fire Service men,” he wrote on X.

As of the time of this report, there have been no confirmed casualties, although the extent of the damage is still being assessed.
