A disturbing new low has been uncovered on social media after reports emerged that armed bandits hosted a live cash giveaway on TikTok and hundreds of Nigerians willingly participated by dropping their bank account details in real time. The incident has sparked outrage and deep soul searching about the level of economic desperation gripping the nation.

According to a viral post on X, the user Catiakyen observed the live stream between midnight and 1 AM. The host, described as a Fulani bandit, was giving away money while Nigerians flooded the comment section with their account numbers from digital banks like OPay and MoniePoint. The observer expressed shock that citizens would openly beg for alms from known outlaws without any sense of shame or fear.

What makes this episode particularly alarming is the complete normalisation of banditry in the minds of some citizens. Rather than reporting the live stream to security agencies, participants saw it as an opportunity to collect cash. The act of voluntarily sharing bank details with criminals also raises serious concerns about identity theft, financial fraud, and even extortion down the line.

Social media users who saw the post reacted with a mixture of anger and despair. Many argued that no economic hardship can justify engaging with armed bandits who have killed, kidnapped, and displaced thousands of Nigerians. Others pointed out that the incident reveals a broken value system where money, regardless of its source, is welcomed without question.

Security experts have warned that such behaviour could embolden bandits further.
