AES Radio Set to Launch as Ministers Inspect New Facilities in Ouagadougou

9

Everything is in place for the launch of AES Radio, according to Mali’s Minister of Communication, Alhamdou Ag Ilyene. The announcement follows an inspection visit by the Ministers of Communication from member states of the Confederation of Sahel States (CSS) to the new broadcasting facilities in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso.

The newly established radio station is equipped with state-of-the-art facilities, including a modern studio, control room, and multimedia centre. It will be broadcast across multiple platforms, including FM, satellite, digital terrestrial television (DTT), and online streaming, to reach audiences throughout the Sahel and beyond.

The AES Radio’s primary mission is to promote regional sovereignty, defend the interests of the Sahel’s citizens, and counter external narratives that hinder the region’s development and progress. It represents a key step in the alliance’s efforts to build independent communication networks that reflect the values and aspirations of its people.

Speaking during the inspection, Ag Ilyene emphasised the broader vision behind the project.

This radio will also be available to all of Africa and the free world, because the values we uphold here are universal,” he said.

The creation of AES Radio is part of a broader initiative by Mali, Burkina Faso, and Niger, the three member states of the alliance, to deepen cooperation in areas of communication, security, and governance, while asserting their sovereignty on the international stage.
