Access Bank CEO Herbert Wigwe is Dead

Access Bank boss Herbert Wigwe is dead. Wigwe reportedly died in a helicopter crash in California, U.S.A., around 10 pm local time on Friday.

According to unconfirmed sources, the Access boss was in the company of his wife, son and three others onboard the Eurocopter EC130 helicopter.

According to The New York Times, the crash occurred near the California-Nevada border, and survivors were yet to be located as of Saturday morning.

“The Federal Aviation Administration said that the Eurocopter EC130 helicopter crashed at around 10 pm local time near Nipton, Calif., an unincorporated community about 60 miles south of Las Vegas in eastern San Bernardino County,” it said.

The report further said, “The National Transportation Safety Board and F.A.A. are investigating the crash, officials said. Representatives from the N.T.S.B. are expected to arrive at the site on Saturday.”

Access Bank Holdings has yet to issue an official statement; however, Ngozi Okonjo Iweala has expressed shock over the unfortunate crash.

In a post on X, she said, “Terribly saddened by the news of the terrible loss of Herbert Wigwe, Group C.E.O. Access Bank @HerbertOWigwe, his wife and son as well as Bimbo Ogunbanjo in a helicopter crash. My deepest sympathies and condolences to the Wigwe family, the Ogunbanjo family, Access Bank Group employees and Management @myaccessbank and my younger Brother Herbert’s partner, Aigboje Aig-Imoukhuede. May the souls of the departed rest in perfect peace.”
