Ghana and Belarus are set to begin negotiations aimed at introducing a visa waiver agreement between the two countries.

The development was announced by Ghana’s Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa after holding discussions with Belarusian Foreign Minister Maxim Ryzhenkov.

According to Ablakwa, the meeting strengthened diplomatic ties between the two nations and opened the door for broader cooperation beyond travel arrangements. Discussions also covered collaboration in areas such as cybersecurity, defence and economic cooperation.

If concluded, the visa waiver agreement would allow citizens of both countries to travel without obtaining visas beforehand, a move expected to encourage tourism, trade and cultural exchanges.

The talks form part of Ghana’s broader diplomatic strategy aimed at expanding international partnerships and improving mobility for its citizens through new bilateral agreements with countries across different regions.
