Mali’s President of the Transition, General Assimi Goïta, represented the country in Conakry on January 17, 2026, for the official inauguration of Guinea’s President, Mamadi Doumbouya.

The ceremony was held at the Lansana Conté Stadium in the Nongo district of the Guinean capital and drew several African heads of state as well as high-level official delegations. The strong turnout underscored the regional significance of the event and Guinea’s evolving political trajectory.

On the sidelines of the inauguration, General Goïta highlighted the long-standing historical and fraternal ties between Mali and Guinea. He also reaffirmed Mali’s commitment to solidarity and cooperation with the Guinean people and authorities, particularly in the context of shared regional challenges.

Following the ceremony, the Malian leader returned to Bamako, concluding what officials described as an important diplomatic engagement aimed at strengthening relations between the two neighbouring countries.
