Burkina Faso Holds First Council of Ministers of 2026

The first Council of Ministers of the year 2026 was held on Thursday, January 8, under the leadership of His Excellency Captain Ibrahim Traoré, President of Burkina Faso and Head of State. Since December 23, 2025, President Traoré has also served as the current Chair of the Confederation of Sahel States (AES).

During this ordinary session, which brought together the top members of the Burkinabe executive, several key matters were on the agenda. Ministers reviewed key documents and made decisions to address the legitimate aspirations of the Burkinabe people, in line with the ideals of the popular progressive revolution.

Officials indicated that the meeting focused on implementing government priorities, strengthening public services, and advancing policies designed to improve the social and economic welfare of citizens. The Council of Ministers also discussed ongoing initiatives at both national and regional levels, reflecting Burkina Faso’s commitment to cooperation within the Sahel region.

The Presidency’s Communication Directorate highlighted that these decisions are part of a broader effort to ensure stability, progress, and inclusive development for all Burkinabe. The Council of Ministers will continue to play a central role in steering government action throughout 2026.
