Niger State Approves School Reopening Following Security Review

481

The Niger State government has approved the reopening of schools across selected parts of the state after months of closure caused by persistent security threats.

State officials said the decision followed a detailed assessment conducted by security agencies and education authorities. Schools located in areas considered relatively stable will resume academic activities first, while others will remain closed pending further review.

Authorities emphasized that the reopening would be gradual and closely monitored, with security patrols around school environments and strict reporting requirements for administrators. Parents have been urged to cooperate with schools and local authorities to ensure student safety.

The prolonged shutdown had disrupted learning for thousands of students and intensified concerns about rising dropout rates. Education advocates say while the reopening is welcome, long-term solutions to insecurity remain critical to preventing repeated disruptions.
