Niger’s Prime Minister and Minister of Economy and Finance, Ali Mahamane Lamine Zeine, joined his counterparts from the West African Economic and Monetary Union (WAEMU) in Dakar on Wednesday for a high-level meeting hosted by Senegalese President Bassirou Diomaye Faye.
The gathering marked a key moment for the eight-member bloc. It focused on assessing recent economic progress and reinforcing policy coordination among member states to drive inclusive regional growth.
One of the event’s major highlights was the official handover of the WAEMU Council presidency from Côte d’Ivoire to Burkina Faso — a symbolic transition underscoring the Union’s commitment to deeper integration and collective prosperity amid evolving regional challenges.
Officials at the meeting reaffirmed their shared determination to strengthen cooperation and economic resilience across the region, emphasising unity as a cornerstone for sustainable development within the Union.
