Kano State Commissioner for Transport, Ibrahim Namadi, has officially resigned from his position after the State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, received the report of the Investigative Committee on Justice and Constitutional Matters. The committee had been probing Namadi’s involvement as a surety for Sulaiman Danwawu, a suspect in a drug trafficking case.
Court documents confirmed that Namadi had acted as surety for Danwawu’s release. The Commissioner’s resignation was announced in a statement issued on Wednesday by the Director General, Media and Publicity to the Kano State Governor, Sanusi Dawakin Tofa.
In the statement, Namadi said his decision was in the interest of the Nigerian public.
As a member of an administration that has consistently championed the fight against the sale and consumption of illicit drugs, it behoves me to take this step, painful as it may be,” he stated.
“While I maintain my innocence, I cannot ignore the weight of public perception and the need to protect the values we have collectively built,” the statement further read.
Earlier, the Governor’s spokesperson, Tofa, had informed the Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Umar Ibrahim, about the committee’s findings. The panel, chaired by Aminu Hussain, Special Adviser to Governor Yusuf on Justice and Constitutional Matters, reportedly carried out a “rigorous, impartial, and evidence-based” investigation into the matter.
Following its inquiry, the committee concluded that Namadi acted “negligently” and was “culpable” for volunteering to stand as surety without conducting proper due diligence on Danwawu.
