ICYMI: Favour Ofili Smashes 150m World Record with Historic 15.85s Run at Adidas Atlanta City Games

Nigerian sprinter Favour Ofili broke the world record on Saturday, delivering a breathtaking performance at the 2025 Adidas Atlanta City Games. Racing at Piedmont Park, Ofili clocked a world-record time of 15.85 seconds (2.0 m/s wind) in the women’s 150m, becoming the first woman in history to run the event in under 16 seconds.

Ofili broke the previous world best of 16.23s, set in 2018 by Olympic champion Shaunae Miller-Uibo of the Bahamas. Ofili’s landmark run headlined a powerful outing for Nigeria at the star-studded street athletics showcase, which featured elite global competitors in a vibrant, fan-accessible setting.

In other standout Nigerian performances, Tobi Amusan, world record holder in the 100m hurdles, posted 12.53s to finish second in her heat behind American Keni Harrison (12.44s), advancing to the final. Amusan’s result reflects growing momentum after early-season times of 12.74s in Xiamen and 12.66s in Keqiao.

Meanwhile, rising sprint talent Udodi Onwuzurike showed strong form in the men’s 100m, clocking a season’s best of 10.20s to secure second place in his heat behind Akani Simbine of South Africa (10.13s). Onwuzurike’s run qualified him for the final and signals a promising upturn in his 2025 campaign.
