Bandits Attack Keta Community, Kill Seven Security Operatives in Zamfara

At least seven security operatives, including hunters and Community Protection Guards, were killed on Thursday when bandits attacked Keta town in Tsafe Local Government Area of Zamfara State.

The state police command said its operatives repelled the attack and killed several bandits. Among them was a notorious leader, ‘Dan Mudale’. According to media reports, police spokesperson Yazid Abubakar said the attack happened around 3:40 p.m. A large number of armed bandits stormed the town. A joint security team, including the Police Mobile Force, Counter-Terrorism Unit, hunters, and Community Protection Guards, engaged them in a fierce gunfight.

During the confrontation, one PMF personnel, four Community Protection Guards, and two hunters made the ultimate sacrifice,” he said.

Two injured hunters are receiving treatment at the Federal Medical Centre, Gusau. The police urged residents to report suspicious activities. They assured the public of ongoing efforts to restore peace. However, the security situation in most states in Nigeria is worsening.

In a recent development, Boko Haram terrorists overran a military base in Wajiroko, Borno State, on Monday. The terrorists killed three soldiers and injured several others.

The attack began around 10:00 p.m. The insurgents launched a coordinated assault on the Forward Operating Base. Soldiers stationed under Operation Hadin Kai and Operation Desert Sanity IV tried to resist but were overpowered. They abandoned the base as the attackers advanced.

Reinforcement teams and air support arrived on Monday and Tuesday. Despite their efforts, they could not reclaim the base. Drone footage reportedly showed soldiers fleeing towards Sabon Gari for safety.

Among the injured were Brigadier General U.F. Abubakar, who led a reinforcement unit, Lance Corporal Ibrahim Musa, and Private Mohammed Hashim. The rising attacks have raised concerns over the country’s security situation. There are growing calls for more decisive military action against insurgents and bandits.
