Senegal To Launch Military Vehicle Assembly Plant To Boost Security

The President of Senegal, Bassirou Diomaye Faye, has announced that Senegal will soon launch its first military vehicle assembly plant, which he made known on Thursday during the celebration of Armed Forces Day.  He noted this is in line with this year’s theme, “Towards the Technological and Industrial Sovereignty of the Armed Forces,” showing Senegal’s push for self-reliance in defence manufacturing.

According to the President, the MoU regarding creating and exploiting this Assembly facility was signed between the Ministry of Armed Forces, the Ministry of Industry and Commerce, and an international partner.

The Ministry of Armed Forces and that of Industry and Commerce signed yesterday an important memorandum of understanding with a partner company for the implementation of a project to install and operate a military vehicle assembly plant in Senegal, he said.

This project would again contribute to job creation and equally link the academic world with economic operators for local innovation and the emergence of talent.

This initiative is part of the authorities desire to develop a new industrial sector that creates jobs while strengthening the links between the academic world and the various economic players, Faye said in his address, stressing the government’s commitment to industrial development and economic resilience.

Recall that on October 14, the Senegal government under Faye introduced a new development program to reduce reliance on foreign loans and prioritise local resources and human capital.

Senegal’s cabinet will present a new development program for the country on Monday that will include plans to move away from reliance on foreign loans and investment in favour of local resources and human capital.
