Lookman, Troost-Ekong , Nwabali Nominated for 2024 CAF Awards

Nigerian football stars Ademola Lookman and William Troost-Ekong have been nominated for the prestigious 2023 CAF Men’s Player of the Year Award.

The duo will vie for Africa’s top football honour against Morocco’s Achraf Hakimi, Cote d’Ivoire’s Simon Adingra, and Guinea’s Serhou Guirassy.  Recall that Troost-Ekong was named the best player of the 2023 AFCON and played a pivotal role in Nigeria’s journey to the tournament’s final, scoring three crucial goals.

The CAF Awards ceremony is set to take place in Marrakech, Morocco, on December 16, where the continent’s finest will be celebrated.

In other categories, Nigeria’s Stanley Nwabali has earned a nomination for the CAF Goalkeeper of the Year Award. Nwabali faces stiff competition from Morocco’s Yassine Bounou, Senegal’s Djigui Diarra, and EPL star Andre Onana of Cameroon.

Additionally, the Nigerian national team, the Super Eagles, is in contention for the 2024 CAF National Team of the Year Award. Nigeria will compete against teams from Angola, Burkina Faso, Ivory Coast, Morocco, and others for the coveted title.

The last edition of the awards had Victor Osimhen and Asisat Oshoala winning the Male and Female  African Player of the Year at the 2023 Confederation  of African Football (CAF) Awards Gala held in Marrakech, Morocco on 11th of December, 2023.
