National Grid Collapses Again, Plunging Nigeria Into Darkness

Nigeria Grid Collapse

The national electricity grid has collapse again. Operated by the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) the grid collapse occurred at approximately 6:48 PM today, further exacerbating the already strained power situation across the country.

This collapse marks yet another instance in a series of grid failures this year, leaving distribution companies unable to supply electricity to their customers.

Several distribution companies have already notified their customers of the outage, blaming the erratic grid for the disruption.

The Enugu Electricity Distribution Company (EEDC), which oversees power supply in the southeastern region, confirmed that the system collapse has severely affected power distribution in key states like Abia, Anambra, Ebonyi, Enugu, and Imo.

Emeka Ezeh, Head of Corporate Communications at EEDC, stated that all interface stations within EEDC’s network, managed by TCN, are currently down.

The latest collapse raises concerns over the stability of Nigeria’s national grid, which has suffered frequent breakdowns this year, compounding the nation’s power supply woes.

It will be recalled that the last reported grid failure occurred on August 6, 2024.
