The staff of the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) have embarked on an indefinite nationwide strike following the expiration of a 14-day ultimatum issued to the agency’s management.

The strike, which commenced today, was confirmed after a congress meeting held on Friday, October 4, 2024.

Under the directive of the Senior Staff Association of Statutory Corporations and Government-Owned Companies (SSASCGOC), NAFDAC employees have been ordered to withdraw all services, vacate their offices, and remove personal belongings as the strike begins.

The union’s key demands include the review and re-evaluation of the 2024 promotion examination results, which currently reflect a pass rate of just 35%.

The staff are pushing for a minimum pass benchmark of 80% for the current and future exams. Another major grievance is the non-payment of salary arrears owed to employees hired in 2022.

In a statement signed by the Secretary of the Association, Ejor Michael, the union accused the NAFDAC management of ignoring their concerns, stating that the agency’s inaction on these critical issues has become “insufferable.”

The striking staff have vowed to continue the industrial action until all their demands, as outlined in their communiqué, are fully addressed by management.
