Nigerian Govt Advises Citizens to Leave Lebanon Amid Israeli Attacks

The Nigerian Government issued a travel advisory informing its citizens to leave Lebanon or relocate to safer locations.

Abdur-Rahman Balogun, Director of Media and Public Relations for the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM), disclosed this in a statement released on Wednesday.

In the statement, NIDCOM notably expressed worry of its citizens as it urged them to utilise the opportunity that commercial flights are still in operation.

The advisory, however, was relative to the Israeli attacks on Lebanon, which Israel says are targeted against Hezbollah but, in reality, have resulted in six civilian casualties.

The latest escalation of Israel’s occupation in the State of Palestine into Lebanon led to the killing of Hezbollah’s leader Hassan Nasrallah in an airstrike on Friday.

With the all-out chaos in the Middle East region, NIDCOM noted, “Though information from the Nigerian community in Lebanon indicated that most Nigerians have relocated from the southern part and are now ‘relatively safe,’ we hereby advise them to keep safe until the ceasefire is in place.”

NIDCOM advised Nigerians to liaise with the country’s Embassy in Lebanon for “necessary guidelines” regarding their safety.

NIDCOM also noted that “no Nigerian has witnessed any form of accident or injury thus far”, wishing them to remain safe while the war lasts.
