The Guinean government has banned the production, import, sale, and use of single-use plastic products nationwide. The decree, issued by President Mamady Doumbouya, aims to reduce pollution and promote the use of biodegradable packaging. Violators of the new rules could face penalties, including fines, business closures, and product seizures.

The ban covers plastic bags, oxo-degradable plastics, and other plastic items. It applies to all manufacturers, importers, and businesses involved in using these materials for commercial or industrial purposes. The decree also banned the disposal of plastic packaging in public areas and waterways throughout the country.

Nevertheless, exceptions were made for plastics used in medical, agricultural, and military activities, as well as for garbage collection and packaging for liquids.
