1.7k

Mali and the United Arab Emirates have reaffirmed their commitment to deepen bilateral relations through the signing of a cooperation agreement that spans different sectors. The agreement was reached during the second session of the Joint Cooperation Commission, co-chaired by Mr. Moussa Diallo, Mali’s Minister of Trade and Industry, and Dr. Thani Al Zeyoudi, UAE Minister of Foreign Trade.

The high-level meeting in Abu Dhabi brought together senior officials, including Mali’s Minister of Energy and Water, Mr. Boubacar Diane, and the President of the Malian Chamber of Commerce and Industry. Discussions focused on expanding opportunities for collaboration in economic and commercial fields, reflecting the growing partnership between Bamako and Abu Dhabi.

After the session, Ministers Diallo and Al Zeyoudi signed the official minutes of the meeting, which outline 11 priority areas of cooperation. These include political relations, transport infrastructure, development financing, investment promotion, support for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), as well as defence and security.

Mali and other member states in the Confederation of Sahel States have been exploring alternative pathways to development. In June, Mali signed agreements with Russia toward economic transformation following a high-level meeting between Malian Minister of Economy and Finance, Alousséni Sanou, and Russian Minister of Energy, Sergey Tsivilev. At the centre of discussions was the launch of a Mali-Russia intergovernmental commission, poised to unlock significant benefits in key sectors, including gold mining, energy, and agriculture.
