Chidinma Adetshina, a 23-year-old beauty queen, has been crowned Miss Universe Nigeria 2024, securing the opportunity to represent Nigeria at the Miss Universe pageant in Mexico this November. Adetshina, who represented Taraba State, emerged victorious in a highly competitive contest, defeating four other finalists, including representatives from Rivers, Anambra, Ondo, and Edo states.

The second runner-up at the event was Miss Ondo, Ayegbidun Peace Olamide, who was crowned Miss Lush 2024. The first runner-up was Miss Anambra, Paula Ezendu, who was crowned Miss Supranational Nigeria and will represent Nigeria at the Miss Supranational pageant in Poland by 2025.

The grand finale of the Miss Universe Nigeria 2024 pageant took place at Eko Hotel and Suites in Lagos on 31st August 2024, where the atmosphere was electric as contestants showcased their talents in various segments, including swimsuit, evening gown, and the critical question-and-answer session.

Adetshina’s journey to the crown was not without its challenges. Before competing in Miss Universe Nigeria, she made headlines for withdrawing from the Miss South Africa 2024 pageant amid a social media uproar regarding her Nigerian heritage. The controversy, which sparked intense online bullying from South Africans, led to her exit from the South African pageant. However, the Miss Universe Nigeria organisation extended an invitation for her to participate, which she accepted, ultimately leading to her win.

Her victory not only earned her the title, beating 24 other contestants but also a grand prize of ₦10 million. In her heartfelt victory speech, Adetshina expressed deep gratitude for everyone who supported her journey. She concluded by saying,

“This crown is not just for beauty but it’s a call for action and that is unity”.
