PIDOM’s Health Worsens In Detention – Source

How PIDOMNigeria's 3-Week Detention Violates Nigerian and International Law

An anonymous source at the Federal Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) has told West Africa Weekly that Isaac Bristol’s health has deteriorated further and requires urgent attention as the injuries on his body worsen.

Bristol, the abducted individual believed by the Nigerian Police Force to be behind the X whistleblower account, PIDOMNigeria, was reportedly neglected by his assigned Investigating Police Officer (IPO) and refused hospital visits despite being scheduled for it repeatedly.

West Africa Weekly gathered that PIDOM sustained injuries as a result of excess torture, yet he has been denied medical attention and now looks bony and very weak.

Despite being kept in solitary confinement for six days in handcuffs upon his arrest on August 5, the source said, “his fellow inmates have been instructed not to interact with him or help him in any way. So, he is entirely isolated.”

The whistleblower, whose high-profile leaks have embarrassed public officials, has been incarcerated since men of the Nigerian Police Force abducted him on August 5.

Although the NPF promised to arraign him in court this week, it has reneged on the promise while denying PIDOM access to family, doctors and legal representatives.

Nigerians have called for the immediate, unconditional release of PIDOM and other 2,000 #EndBadGovernance protesters detained for protesting hunger in the current administration.

Civil Society Organisations and leaders of opposition parties have also condemned the glaring assault on press freedom by President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
